The California State Assembly is considering two key bills right now, which could give the climate movement a big boost.
Just last week, the State Assembly passed SB 185, a landmark bill divesting the state's massive pension funds from coal.
We're on a roll right now, so let's keep pushing. Join us in Sacramento this Thursday morning to push the rest of California's climate bills all the way!
WHAT: Rally to support California’s climate bills at the State Assembly vote
WHEN: Thursday, September 10, 9:30 AM
WHERE: California State Capitol Building, Sacramento, 3rd floor in front of the Assembly floor gate
WHO: Activists with CEJA (California Environmental Justice Alliance), The Better World Group, 350 local groups, and more
If passed, SB 350 would help beat back climate change by increasing renewable energy by 50 percent by 2030, cutting petroleum use by 50 percent by 2030, and boosting energy efficiency in buildings. SB 32 would ensure that the state’s policy is to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent below 1990 levels by 2050.
A few other tips to help us make a splash on the big day:
- Wear green. We want our political leaders to see just how many Californians support these bills, and our message will be stronger if we create a green sea of folks filling the halls.
- Bring a sign to show your support for SB 350 and SB 32. We'll bring some materials for signs, but feel free to make and bring your own too!
