Local Governments & Institutions:

Commit To Real Climate Leadership Around The Climate Action Summit

National governments can't be trusted to meet the Paris targets alone.

Every level of government and every institution has to step up if we are to stop the fossil fuel industry and make just transition to 100% renewable energy.

In September representatives from local governments and civil society are gathering in San Francisco for the Global Climate Action Summit. It’s the largest gathering of non-national governments ever held and a unique opportunity to corner the fossil fuel industry.

We need all local leaders -- whether they're at the Global Climate Action Summit or not -- to commit to real climate leadership. That means:

  1. A fast + just transition to 100% renewable energy for all.
  2. No new fossil fuel projects anywhere.
  3. Not a penny more for dirty energy.

Demand that your local leaders, and all local leaders at the summit, do their part to stop the fossil fuel industry and meet the Paris targets.

Every institution and every single level of government has a role to play. Any institution that fails to make these commitments is out of line with the Paris commitment to 1.5 ℃; and what science and justice demand.
