Breaking news: TransCanada has asked the US Government to suspend its application for the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline.

This is a desperate play by a company that knows it's on thin ice. By calling for a suspension, TransCanada is hoping to avoid the pre-election rejection by President Obama that many are predicting. They are playing for time, hoping that by leaving the project in limbo they can avoid losing outright -- and that maybe a year from now all those pesky activists will have gone away.

Keystone XL fails the climate test that the President laid out. It's horrible for the climate, devastating for the land and people of Northern Alberta, terrible for the ranchers and farmers of the Midwest, and a lose-lose for the American people.

President Obama: It's past time to get this done. Reject this request for a suspension, and reject the pipeline once and for all.
