Defusing Washington’s carbon bomb

After giving the fossil fuel industry a big loss with Keystone XL, we have the opportunity to give them another with Northwest coal. Tell Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands Peter Goldmark that you’re against Northwest coal exports, and we’ll make sure your message gets delivered in person.

Tell WA State Commissioner Goldmark:

Commissioner Goldmark,

I strongly oppose construction of coal export terminals on the West Coast that would pollute the air we breathe and the water we drink. Washington is committed to investing in clean, renewable energy and a healthier planet. Northwest coal companies are now scrambling to sell their dirty energy to Asia, and they plan to ship it right through our backyards.

This plan for coal export on a massive scale would have a terrible impact on our communities—increasing air and water pollution, traffic congestion and rates of respiratory illness—and would undercut our state’s efforts to reduce global warming pollution and provide leadership on climate issues.

I urge you to use your full authority to prevent the West Coast from becoming a gateway for dirty coal around the world.

Sincerely,

Signed,
