Climate Knows No Borders: Defense of the Salish Seas is Without Boundaries. Buses leaving from Seattle at 10:15 for this International Rally. Rally starts at 1pm in Blaine. We will standing in solidarity with the NYC People’s Climate March and the treaty to Protect the Sacredness of the Salish Sea being signed by numerous regional native tribes on 9/22 . In addition we will literally be reaching across the border, Canadians and Americans to take each other’s hands and pledge to take action to protect the Salish Sea from becoming a carbon corridor for the fossil fuel industry. We will be hearing from speakers about the work being done locally, from Native Speakers, and have musicians and a chance to share food and network.
This is organized by350 Seattle.org, the Wilderness Committee, and the Georgia Strait Alliance. It is co-sponsored by: 350 Bellingham, Sierra Club BC, the WA Environmental Council, Climate Solutions Backbone Alliance, PIPE UP Network, Friends of the Earth, and many more.
We have buses and carpools going from Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria. There is field between the US and Canadian customs where the Peace Arch stands. This is before either side crosses the border and so it will not be necessary to do so for this rally. You will not need your passport – although it is probably handy to have it with you. There is limited parking available before crossing which is why it is good to carpool. See 350Seattle.org website to signup for carpooling from US.
Bring food to share for potluck picnic. This is a family friendly event and free except for bus ticket price or donations you may choose to make. Join us on the border to protect the Salish Seas!
