Sustainable Canada Dialogues (SCD) aims to propose a range of science-based and viable policy options that could motivate change to help Canada in the necessary transition to more sustainable development. Through the mobilization of scientific expertise, the initiative targets the identification of positive solutions to overcome obstacles to sustainability.
Events on September 21st, collectively called the "People's Climate Forums", will be held in major cities across Canada by universities to announce the existence and goals of Sustainable Canada Dialogues in conjunction with major events in New York City such as the Peoples' Climate March (See: http://peoplesclimate.org/march/) on Sept. 21st (This march will also likely take place in Toronto so, we are ending this event at 2:30pm so that participants can join the march tentatively scheduled for 3:30pm. Sign up for the march in Toronto here: https://secure.avaaz.org/en/event/climate/Peoples_Climate_March_Toronto) and the United Nations Climate Summit 2014 (See: http://www.un.org/climatechange/summit/) on Sept. 23rd. The People's Climate Forums, held across Canada, will build awareness in anticipation of the announcement of SCD's suggested solutions, to be released on Earth Day 2015.
Please join us for a multidisciplinary mini-conference at Ryerson University in Toronto, one of the People's Climate Forums, to celebrate the creation of SCD and the events in New York City. You will hear academics and others speak about their cutting edge research and projects related to climate and sustainability issues. The sessions are set up so that there will be time for discussions with each speaker and participation from attendees. We have an exciting schedule of speakers and opportunities to network to develop a stronger community of thought in Ontario around how we will address climate change. Please join us by registering using this invitation at http://www.eventbrite.ca/e/peoples-climate-forum-toronto-tickets-12844124121?aff=eorg - it is FREE!! We look forward to seeing you there.
Sustainable Canada Dialogues is being developed through the support of the McGill-UNESCO Chair Dialogues on Sustainability, and of the Trottier Institute for Science and Public Policy.
