Saturday, September 21, 1:00 PM Kemeny Park near the Marathon PlantFolks from across MI will come together in southwest Detroit on September 21st to peacefully form a line of resistance against tar sands and dirty energy; a human line. We will deliver the people’s demands, share our visions for a better future, and stand in solidarity with frontline communities across the country and globe that are treated as sacrifice zones by corporate polluters in their pursuit of profit and power. Participants will gather at 1pm at Kemeny Park at 2260 S. Fort Street, with members from the Detroit Coalition Against Tar Sands, Ann Arbor 350 Local, Michigan Coalition Against Tar Sands, and other allies to connect with each other, hear from some local artists, and develop our demands before we walk, bike, and march a few blocks to Marathon to deliver our demands. We will “Draw the Line” alongside each other on the public sidewalk in front of the Marathon tar sands refinery. Individuals will be invited to share their stories and vision for a future that works for all of us. We are also inviting folks to come early and meet at the Old Michigan Central Train Station, 2405 W Vernor Hwy, at 12:30pm to join in the 6 mile “Marathon Bike-ride” with local bicycle groups that will join the rest of us at Kemeny park at 1pm.
