The Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) campaign aims to get the DBSA to publicly commit to not funding the Thabametsi coal fired power plant. Thabametsi is one of 12 plants considered under the Independent Power Producers plan in South Africa. It uses outdated technology and as a result will be a coal plant with disproportionate emissions, impacts on human health, water availability, and agricultural productivity in an age when a new coal plant is not only increasingly unpopular, but a climate crime.
350Africa will be engaging DBSA employees through visual content breaking down why the bank should withdraw from financing Thabametsi. We're calling on the DBSA to be a part of a movement for change, and in reference to Cyril Ramaphosa 'new dawn' speech, deliver on a new approach towards more sustainable, efficient systems that prioritise energy access for South Africans.
We're planning to escalate this May, join the action and we'll provide you with more information. To begin, sign this petition to show your support for this campaign --> https://350africa.org/thumamina-heed-the-call-say-no-to-coal-dbsa/
