The Paris Climate Change Conference (COP21) scheduled end date is December 11, 2015. We are all hoping for a strong binding agreement that will put the world on a path to a sustainable future. We are hoping but not waiting. Therefore people around the world are acting on Saturday, December 12 to demonstrate that we must move rapidly to renewable energy and keep fossil fuels in the ground. We need to show that we are prepared to defend the climate red lines that cannot be crossed. If politicians won’t get the job done, we will.
We are the ones we have been waiting for.
Elgin Green Groups 350, Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice, Occupy Elgin, Occupy Elgin, and Northern Illinois Justice League will join forces in Elgin as they highlight the potential of millions of gallons of crude oil to spill from pipelines that now or are planned to crisscross Illinois. If completed, the flow of toxic tar sands mix through Boone and DeKalb Counties could reach 100,000,000 gallons per day. We plan to send a loud and clear message that enough is already too much.
